Bowen Receives Guggenheim Fellowship

Chosen from 3,000 applicants

John Bowen, Dunbar-Van Cleve Professor in Arts & Sciences and Professor of Anthropology, was chosen from a group of almost 3,000 applicants for the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship.  Appointed on the basis of prior achievement and exceptional promise, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation awarded 181 Fellowships to a diverse group of scholars, artists, and scientists in its eighty-eighth annual competition for the United States and Canada.  Often characterized as "midcareer" awards, Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for men and women who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.
