Annual Graduate Student Award
The Association of Women Faculty (AWF) of the Danforth Campus was established in 1995 both to promote professional and social interactions among women faculty and to advocate for the interests of women faculty at Washington University in St. Louis. Each year, the AWF recognizes academic excellence and leadership potential among women students in the second year of graduate school or beyond. AWF Award Jury composed of faculty members has selected this year awardees from an exciting pull of nominations, as based on the strengths of their academic record including (where applicable) their creative work, research, teaching, service, and leadership activities.
This year’s recipients of the Annual Graduate Student Award include BrieAnna S. Langlie (Department of Anthropology), Jennifer Terrell (School of Law), and Kaitlyn Faries (Department of Chemistry).
BrieAnna Langlie recently successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in the Department of Anthropology titled Farming during the Auca Runa: Agricultural Strategies and Terraces during the Peruvian Late Intermediate Period (A.D. 1100-1450) Altiplano, Peru. In 2013 BrieAnna led a field project in Peru at the fortified hilltop settlement of Machu Llaqta, focusing on terraces below the site, hiring and directing her own crew, and yielded a wealth of information about agricultural intensification and cultural resilience during a period of increased warfare and drought following the disintegration of the Tiwanaku state. The Department of Anthropology is excited to see what BrieAnna will do next and joins AWF in celebrating her work.
