Rebecca Lester awarded 2017 Stirling Prize

Selected by the Society for Psychological Anthropology for the Best Publication in Psychological Anthropology

The Society for Psychological Anthropology (SPA) of the American Anthropological Association was founded in 1977. SPA is a broad, multidisciplinary organization of individuals interested in cultural, psychological, and social interrelations at all levels. Each year, the Stirling Prize is awarded to a previously published work (article or book, in alternate years) that makes an outstanding contribution to any area of psychological anthropology.

This year Dr. Rebecca Lester, an Associate Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, was awarded the Stirling Prize for her article "Self-Governance, Psychotherapy, and the Subject of Managed Care: Internal Family Systems Therapy and the Multiple Self in a US Eating Disorders Clinic" in American Ethnologist.

Dr. Lester's work sits at the intersection of anthropology, psychiatry, religion, and gender studies. For more information on her research, visit her faculty page.
